Happy Hour @ The Campground

In my 20's the drink de jour was any beer someone brought or a Bacardi and coke

In my 30's it was a Belvedere Martini, two olives, dry, up

In my 40's drinking it's a glass of wine with an occasional cocktail or micro brew

When I plan group camp trips I often make the first night "Happy Hour" at our site and ask my fellow campers to bring an appetizer. This is a great way to break in the weekend as well as an easy dinner for everyone who just set up camp and doesn't feel like cooking a full meal.

BAR TOOLS TO HELP WITH
HAPPY HOUR AT THE CAMPGROUND

Waiter Bottle Opener
This type of opener is great and compact. It can cut the cap off of a wine bottle as well as open it and opens bottled beer and other beverages as well.

Beverage Factory.com
Williams Sanoma
Blenders

Are we making margaritas blended? If that's your thang then this is the tool for you

Unbreakable Glasses
Plastic or stainless steel seems to be the best choices here. Check out these favorites.

Travel Bar and Flasks

These are totally fun. They run about $ 40 - $100. Keep in mind most of these sets have real glasses. You can use real or replace with plastic. I've used both, but now with a child I keep it unbreakable. Shop picnic sites like the ones listed below. The one shown above is from Picnic Time for $101.

A FEW BASIC COCKTAIL RECIPE'S

ONE MARGARITA
1/4 fresh lime
1 Tbsp of frozen lime aide
2 Tbsp of water
1 Tbsp of cointreau or triple sec
Shot of tequila
Large handful ice
Kosher salt for rim optional

Run lime along rim of glass and dip in salt
Mix ingredients in glass
Add ice to glass if having over the rocks
Blend in blender with ice if having a blended margarita

ONE MARTINI
Splash dry vermouth
1/4 cup top shelf vodka or gin
Large green olive or lemon rind to flavor

Fill a mixing glass with ice
Add vodka or gin
Add vermouth
Strain into drinking glass
Add garnish

SHANDY GAFF
non alcoholic beer is an option

1 part ginger ale or ginger beer
1 par beer
Ice

Pour equal amounts of ginger ale and beer over ice in a tall glass
Make sure this drink is very cold

LOVE this idea for a blog post. I once proposed it to an alcohol beverage client when talking about camping.

The shandy is a great idea, as often beer is the preferred beverage of choice around a campfire. Easy to make.

BUT, if I was doing a romantic camping trip, I'd see about bringing along ingredients for a cocktail.

Margaret so glad you liked the post, it's always fun to hear from readers. I have to say that one of the things I like so much about cocktails at the campsite is the flair it brings to the location.
I am posting another fun cocktails and camping post soon.
